Are you interested in being a volunteer driver for us? We’d love to have you join us in helping deliver meals to those in need in our community. Here are answers to the most frequent questions we get asked from perspective volunteers. If your question isn’t answered here, please contact us.
What are the requirements to be a volunteer driver?
Volunteers must provide their own transportation, have a current driver’s license, have liability insurance, and pass a criminal background check.
What are the duties?
Pick up the two cooler bags with meals and route book at our site, deliver meals to clients, return route book and bags, and inform administrator of any meals that couldn’t be delivered or any special concerns you may have about clients.
What is the time commitment?
Our volunteers pick their own schedule. You can drive once a week, once a month, twice a month, or whatever works with your schedule. We also have a substitute list for drivers who are interested in being on call in case someone cancels in advance or doesn’t show up to drive. Volunteers on this list only drive if they are available on the given day. Drivers arrive between 11:30-11:45 am and are usually done with the route between 12:30-1:00 pm.
What route will I be assigned?
We will work with you to find a route that works best for you. Once assigned, you’ll have the same route every time.
Can I bring my kids along?
Yes, absolutely! Bringing children along is a great way to help kids get involved in volunteering young and so many of our clients enjoy it when children help deliver their meals.
How do I sign up?
Visit our volunteer sign up page to contact us to set up an appointment. The appointment usually takes about 20 minutes and you will be shown where to come pick up the meals, how everything works, and we will find a good route for you. Then we generally put you on the schedule within 2-3 weeks.
Can I sign up through my church?
Yes, if your church is a partner with us. Many of our volunteer drivers are from various churches in the communities we serve. See our current list of church partners. If you attend a church listed there, you can become a volunteer driver for us through your church.
