What is Meals on Wheels?
Meals on Wheels is a non-profit organization that delivers hot non-time meals to elderly, home-bound, and disabled folks in our communities of Coon Rapids and Blaine.
What does it take to qualify?
In order to qualify, you must be elderly, homebound, certified disabled, OR recovering from an illness, injury, or recent hospitalization.
Is there a cost?
Yes, the cost is as follows:
- Hot lunch meal: $5.50/each
- Frozen weekend meal*: $5.50/each
- Breakfast**: $2.50/each
*Frozen weekend meals go out on Fridays with the hot lunch meal.
**Breakfasts go out at noon with the hot lunch meals.
Is there meal payment assistance?
To find out if you qualify for assistance through Anoka County or your HMO, contact your case manager. If you do not have a case manager, contact the Anoka County Long Term Service & Support Intake line at 763-323-6089.
What time are meals delivered?
We deliver between 12:00-1:00 in the afternoon. We deliver Monday through Friday.
Do I have to get meals every day?
No, meal delivery is very flexible. You can pick the days you want meal delivery and change it at any time. You can even call each month and pick only the days of the month you would like meals.
Who will be delivering the meals?
Our drivers are volunteers from local churches and people within the surrounding communities.
How do I sign-up?
You can call the office, at 763-489-3608. The office is open Mon-Fri 8:00-2:30. After we get the information needed, meal delivery can begin within a day or two.
What if I need to cancel a meal?
To change or cancel a meal, you must call the office at least 24 working hours ahead (by 12 noon the work day before) in order to not be charged.
What if I forget I have an appointment and it’s too late to cancel?
If you put a cooler out by your door, the driver will automatically leave the meal in the cooler if there is no one home (a frozen ice pack is also required in warmer months).
How do I pay?
We send out an invoice on the first of the month. It will have the total meal cost for the previous month. We send along a self-addressed stamped envelope to mail in a check (no tips to our delivery drivers allowed).
Do you deliver on holidays?
We are closed on major holidays, but we can send an extra meal the day before if you request it.
